This is
an allergy to a substance, which targets the brain tissue and alters its
functions. This kind of allergy can mimic symptoms of mental illness ranging
from lack of focus and comprehension, to lack of organizational skills, abrupt
shifting of activities, severe psychotic state, mood swings, irrational
behaviour, loss of insight, delusions,
panic, anxiety, paranoia and hallucinations.
Caffeine allergy is a cerebral allergy.
This type of allergy manifests as anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis normally paralyzes the higher
cerebral function and the body enters a “fight or flight” state. Caffeine anaphylaxis also causes cerebral
vasculitis which soon leads to the breakdown of blood brain barrier. This causes for the brain cells to be
poisoned.
One of
the most common childhood and adult problems in the world today is Attention
Deficit Disorder and yet you see the same people who have been diagnosed with
such illness running around with a coffee or a caffeinated drink in their
hands.
Inability
to concentrate, lack of comprehension, hyperactivity, disorganized thoughts and
delusions are all trademarks of caffeine allergy. The reaction to caffeine results in poisoning
of the prefrontal cortex. The damage to
the underside area, above the eye sockets leaves the person absent minded and
unable to monitor personal activities.
These people normally complain of lack of focus, failing memory and
other abnormalities. Caffeine causes
faster speech in children but as adults who are caffeine addicts it is hard for
us to detect. We always need to remember
that we were born “relaxed”.
American
Psychiatric Association labels caffeine as “substance”. The intoxication according to APA can result
in disturbance in attention, perception, judgment and motor activity, also
bringing about restlessness, agitation, irritability and delirium. Yet they still place our children on Ritalin
and adults on medications and drugs instead of simply taking the caffeine away
from our diets.
For those
who switch to decaffeinated coffee, the bad news is the chemical processing
that needs to take place to take the caffeine out.
Symptoms
of caffeine withdrawal can be different from person to person, one of which
being depression. There are hundreds of references on this point from books to
research and internet articles. Please
consider reading them.
